The professionalisation of coaching in Belgium

Moving forward . . .The Professionalisation of coaching in Belgium

Dear EMCC Belgium members,

For some time now, our “external relations” division has been thinking about developing a partnership project with ICF Belgium on the notion of “professional coach” and its promotion in Belgian civil society.

This ambitious project has been the subject of much work over the past few weeks and it will certainly mark the start of close collaboration between the two Belgian federations and put in place a real "external communication action plan".

This ICF / EMCC partnership will materialise through what is now called the “BCMA” or “Belgium Coaching and Mentoring Alliance” and the founding text will be signed by the two Presidents of the two federations on November 16, 2021 in Brussels, namely respectively by Gaëtane Lenain for ICF Belgium and by Antoine Parmentier for EMCC Belgium. A press release will be drawn up on this occasion.

In general, even if ICF and EMCC obviously remain two distinct entities, free and independent and with autonomous powers and separate missions, the fact remains that they wish to work together to serve the cause of coaches. Belgians and their recognition in all strata of society.

The promotion of professional coaching will highlight what the “professional coach” represents for the two federations, in particular by emphasizing the following criteria:

  • They have followed a specific training in coaching
  • They subscribes to a Code of Ethics, in this case that of EMCC Belgium
  • They can testify to a continuous practice of coaching
  • They are regularly supervised.

Finally, this action in favor of professional coaching will be allocated a budget and it will be accompanied by the means to be implemented to achieve this objective. The external communication plan will be drawn up, both for the press and for civil society in general.

The “external relations” team will of course keep you regularly informed of the actions undertaken within the framework of the promotion of professional coaching in Belgium.

-----------------

In the meantime, a first concrete communication action towards the outside has succeeded and our "external relations" division has indeed joined ICF to respond to the program unfavorable to coaching of September 29, 2021:

“Whatever the cost - All coaches” 09/29/2021 presented by Yann Antony Noghès.

This "right of reply" from EMCC in the form of a letter addressed to RTL / TVI was an opportunity to remind people that the titles that the coaches can carry are allocated exclusively by the federations, following a strict process which verifies that the applicant:

  • Has completed sufficient specific coaching training
  • Has demonstrated experience in the practice of professional coaching
  • Passed the tests assessing their knowledge and their ability to exercise the profession according to the skills defined by the federations.

In conclusion, it was a question of rectifying the inaccuracies observed and of presenting the reality of professional coaching in its entirety (its ethical and deontological rules, the methods of its practice and the training and certification path to achieve this) and of '' make corrections and information that is accurate and rewarding for the coaches who are members of EMCC.
